Human Factors Engineer Safety & Mission Assurance

Isabel Navarro is a human factors engineer at the Valparaíso campus. She studies how crews live and work on long missions and how to design cockpits and habitats that reduce mistakes.

Isabel led the crew-workload studies that allowed the Atlas Heavy Freighter to be flown by three pilots and shaped the patient-handling layout of the Seraph Medevac.

Isabel trained as a psychologist before specialising in human factors engineering. She is currently studying crew fatigue on the long transits of the Meridian Colony Ark and advising the design team on lighting, sleep schedules and privacy. She speaks frequently on the human side of spaceflight and believes the best safety system is a well-rested crew.
