Meridian Colony Ark
The Meridian Colony Ark is the most ambitious project in Halcyon's history and, at 2,400 metres, the largest vessel ever assembled in orbit. Conceived in 2180 after the Martian and Titanian settlement authorities asked for a way to move entire towns at once, the ark's hull was laid down at the Olympus Ring above Mars. Its first flight, on 1 May 2186, carried a test population of 600 volunteers to Mars orbit and back.
The Meridian is flown by twelve pilots in three watches and operated by a total crew of 340, including engineers, physicians, teachers and agricultural specialists. It carries up to 4,800 settlers in rotating habitat drums that provide Earth-normal gravity, along with 260,000 tonnes of prefabricated housing, power plants, farm modules and vehicles. Cascade Dropships ride in its belly to ferry people and cargo down to the surface.
Propulsion comes from a cluster of eight helium-3 fusion drives. The ark is not fast, with a top speed of 410 km/s, but its range of 300 AU means it can reach any destination in the solar system, from Mars and Ganymede to Titan, and return. It burns 3.9 tonnes of Helium-3 fusion pellets per 100 AU, a remarkably modest figure for a vessel of its mass, thanks to a magnetic nozzle shared with the Starliner programme.
Commissioning a Meridian costs 8,950 million credits, making it by far the most expensive ship we build; even the Eidolon Lightsail Prototype costs 3,400 Mc. In return, a settlement authority receives a complete, ready-to-deploy town. Most buyers finance arks through multi-government consortia, and CFO Omar Farouk's team works with each one on payment schedules spread across the build.
Two arks are currently under construction, with the first commercial delivery to the Titan Settlement Authority expected in 2188. Interior Design Lead Thiago Santos describes the habitat drums as "neighbourhoods, not cabins," with gardens, schools and markets designed to make a two-year voyage feel like the first chapter of a new life rather than a wait.
The ark's design life is forty years, and the hull is built to be partly dismantled on arrival, with sections becoming the first permanent structures of the new settlement.
