Halcyon Open Star Chart 2187
The Open Star Chart compiles astrometry from Halcyon's own survey instruments and decades of public catalogues into a single reference of 1.8 billion stars, each with position, proper motion and brightness in six bands. It is regenerated every year for the current epoch.
A compact navigation subset of 4.2 million bright stars ships in the star trackers of every Corvid Stealth Scout and Aurora Mk II courier, letting single-pilot craft fix their attitude and position without any radio signal. A pulsar timing table supports autonomous positioning in the outer system.
The chart is dedicated to the public domain under CC0, so any shipyard or hobbyist can use it without restriction. Lars Eriksen's open data team publishes it in several formats, from bulk files to tiles for planetarium software.
Contributions of improved cross-matching and corrections from observatories are reviewed through the repository's issue tracker. Current products include star positions and proper motions, navigation reference catalogue and pulsar timing table. Everything is distributed under the CC0-1.0 licence, with source and documentation at https://git.halcyon.example/open-star-chart, and the open data team answers questions on the community forum within two working days. Partners who build commercial services on top of it are asked only to credit Halcyon Stellar Works and to report errors they find, so that every user benefits from the fix.
