Sparrow Training Flight Records

Dataset n/a

Halcyon's flight school in Oceania trains around 600 new pilots a year on the Sparrow Trainer, a two-seat craft where a student flies with an instructor alongside. Graduates progress to solo flights in the Wren Microlifter. This dataset collects anonymised logs from more than 41,000 training sorties.

Each sortie records control inputs, approach paths and every moment an instructor took over. Ana Kalani's training team uses the data to spot the manoeuvres students find hardest, and partner flight schools use it to compare their own syllabi.

Logs are released under CC-BY-4.0 with all personal identifiers removed. A companion table compares simulator performance to real flight for the same students.

Researchers in aviation psychology and training design are encouraged to contribute studies back to the project. The full set of outputs (anonymised student flight logs, instructor intervention events and simulator-to-flight comparisons) is licensed CC-BY-4.0, with source and documentation at https://git.halcyon.example/sparrow-records. Halcyon commits to keeping it available for at least twenty years, with older versions preserved in the open data archive. Feedback from partners shapes the roadmap; most new features over the past two years began as a request on the public tracker.
